It got knocked down, but it got up again.

The structure that used to house furnishing retailer JYSK, in Dilworth Centre, might have been demolished to make way for four six-storey buildings, but that didn’t mean the end for the business.

JYSK is returning with a new store located in Orchard Plaza, 1876 Cooper Road, with an opening date of May 18.

The new location will be 27,000 square feet and will be one of 3,300 stores in 48 countries.

In 1996, JYSK opened its first Canadian store in Coquitlam as an international retailer of affordable Scandinavian home furnishings, explained CEO Ludvik G Kristjansson. Now, there are currently more than 66 stores across the country.

“We are excited to be celebrating 28 years in Canada and bringing Scandinavian influence to the Canadian market,” said Kristjansson.
