Vernon’s own version of the TV show the Amazing Race gets underway Saturday.

The second annual Heroes Amazing Race will see contestants running around town completing the 12 legs of the race - which include mental and physical challenges.

Teams of two battle to deduce clues, navigate themselves in foreign areas, overcome obstacles and sabotage, interact with locals, perform physical and mental challenges, and vie for cars, buses, taxi, and other public transportation options and collect points. The first team to arrive at back at The Mission with 150 points wins a Houseboat Vacation for 22 people from Waterway Vacations.

Beginning at the Upper Room Mission at 11 a.m. (registration is at 10 a.m.), the event features teams of two racing to overcome obstacles.

The event is open to anyone over 12 and includes an array of prizes.

The event also supports the Canadian Cancer Society in support of brain cancer research, in memory of Melissa Gobbett.
