Although the forecast called for rain, weather co-operated for athletes who travelled from across B.C. and Alberta to compete in the annual Shuswap Dragon Boat Festival and the first Survive the Triangle, Shuswap International Outrigger Race Weekend held in Salmon Arm over the weekend.

Although the forecast called for rain, weather co-operated for athletes who travelled from across B.C. and Alberta to compete in the annual Shuswap Dragon Boat Festival and the first Survive the Triangle, Shuswap International Outrigger Race Weekend held in Salmon Arm over the weekend.

A number of local racers placed in the medals. Saturday, dragon boaters raced in three divisions. In the Ladies, Dr’agonize claimed first and Friends Abreast took third. In the Masters, Shuswap Coots placed second and in the Mixed, it was Dr’agonize with another first.

At Survive the Triangle Saturday, We Ain’t No Lilly Dippers, comprised of Mary Reynolds, Donna Cook, Teresa McKerral, Shannon Inglis, Sonia McDonald and Jennifer Douglas, placed first in the OC6 Women’s 14km Novice.

And first in the 14km Novice Mixed was U Wanna Kumanna comprised of Karin Crouch, Joan Fiala, Ted Crouch, Pam Rhine, Bill Grainger and Caleb Espinoza.

 

Sunday, first in the 10km OC2 Women were Michele Brooks and Carla Van der Kraats. Third in the 10km OC2 Mixed Race were Len Sept and Cary Lentz, and third in the 10km OC1 Men’s Master division was Michael Van der Kraats.
