Deverick Clingwall was recently awarded the Vernon Flying Club Aviation Scholarship in Memory of Len Neufeld.

Clingwall has been able to fulfill his dream of becoming a pilot by participating in Shuswap 222 Air Cadets of Salmon Arm since age 12.

Through air cadets, he earned his glider pilot and also his private pilot licence.

He also received the Chief Ground School Instructors Award for top academic mark, his familiarization pilot, and cross-country glider pilot Licence, enabling him to share the experience of flying with other cadets province- wide.

While maintaining straight A’s in high school, Clingwall achieved 94 per cent in both the glider pilot licence at Comox and also the power pilot scholarship course at Coastal Pacific Aviation thanks to air cadets.

Clingwall’s primary goal has always been to become a pilot. However, he recognized that pilots can benefit from other training or education. He is currently taking the aircraft maintenance engineer licence at Okanagan College.

This summer, he hopes to obtain his float plane rating, tail wheel checkout, and commercial licence.
