Organizers of Sicamous’ Show and Shine Car Show are looking for someone else to take the wheel for next year’s event.
Longtime car show coordinators Wayne March and George Ross have made 2017’s successful car show their last, wanting to be behind the wheels of their own vehicles instead.
“I have no summer, none, and I’m not getting any younger and I want to do some travelling in June and July while I can with the motorhome and that,” said March. “We just thought it’s time.”
March, Ross and others have seen the classic car show, held annually at Finlayson Park, grow from 56 cars in the Sicamous and District Recreation Centre, to around 200, with vendors, music, an accompanying craft fair and more. March says it’s one of the biggest car shows in the Okanagan.
“It’s well established. It takes a lot of work, not just from me and George, but our whole society (Sicamous and District Recreation Society) and the volunteers we have to run it,” said March, adding the society is also stepping away from the event.
Sicamous Mayor Terry Rysz says he doesn’t want to see the annual event disappear, and that the district is working as an intermediary with interested parties who may take it on.
“We do have interested people that would probably like to take it on,” said Rysz.
“The district of course is going to try to co-ordinate something. We’re going to try to make sure it continues, without question.”
