In memory of Salmon Arm artist Marie Manson, money is granted from a trust fund set up by her friends at the time of her death in order to support an annual award for a mid-career artist.

The Shuswap District Arts Council invites applications from the musical community to the annual Blair Borden Memorial Award.

Borden was a founding member of the arts council in 1970 and dedicated this award to adult musicians of all abilities wanting to further their education. An award of not less than $500 is given each year to an individual, and another $500 is presented as a scholarship to a student of the Shuswap Music Festival.

The trustees of the Marie Manson Memorial Arts Award invite applications from artists of all genre.

More than 60 local artists have benefit ted from this award that has been offered since 1981.

The award is intended for mid-career artists in all disciplines who reside in the Shuswap area. Funds may be used to support a specific project, travel or a professional development opportunity. The award of not less than $1,500 will be presented to one or two artists.

The deadline to receive applications for both awards is April 30. The recipients will be announced at the end of May. Application guidelines are provided at the front desk of the arts centre, or can be downloaded from www.salmonarmartscentre.ca/apply.

Completed applications may be delivered to the Salmon Arm Arts Centre at 70 Hudson Ave. NE, or mailed to Box 1181, Salmon Arm, BC V1E 4P3. All submitted material will be returned.
