Loud suits won’t be required to enjoy a new restaurant and lounge in Salmon Arm.

The Prestige Harbourfront Resort will be welcoming Don Cherry’s Sports Grill to the facility as of May 1.

The Don Cherry’s Sports Grill franchise will take over the space currently occupied by the Sandbar Pub.

With a well-established brand and loyal customer base, Don Cherry’s will be a promising opportunity for operators Bert Duss and Wendy Davie, who say they’re eager to bring it to the community.

“This is an exciting new venture for us, and we feel it will be very well-received by the residents of Salmon Arm and the guests of the Prestige Harbourfront Resort,” says Duss. “The franchise is one that is very popular across Canada, and we look forward to bringing a sports-themed atmosphere to Salmon Arm’s dining choices.”

Sebastian Hofstetter, general manager of the Prestige Harbourfront Resort, says the lounge will be a welcome addition.

“It will bring a lot of excitement to the property. We host a lot of sports teams, couples and groups who will certainly appreciate a lively atmosphere in the resort, and I think it will be a great new entertainment option for city residents as well.”

Renovations to the lounge will be staggered over the next few months and will eventually lead to a complete transformation of the space. The existing Sandbar Pub will remain in operation – only closing for a few select days in March and April – until Don Cherry’s anticipated opening on May 1.

Prestige Hotels and Resorts will remain the sole owners of the resort and dining spaces, leasing out the food and beverage operations to Duss and Davie, who also operate the Aquatico Bay restaurant in the resort.

The lounge will be one of five Don Cherry’s locations in British Columbia, all of which are owned or operated by Prestige Hotels and Resorts properties. Other locations include Vernon, Smithers, Prince George, Prince Rupert and Cranbrook.
