Nelson Leon has been re-elected chief of the Adams Lake Band.

Leon defeated Tom (Phil) Dennis 140 votes to 90.

“I’m feeling very positive, it’s a wonderful result,” Leon said Monday following the Saturday election.

Of the five councillor positions, three councillors were returned and two were replaced by new faces. Returned were Cliff Arnouse, Karen Marie Everard and Gina Johnny. Replacing councillors Doreen Kenoras and Joyce Kenoras are Henry Alfred Anthony and former chief Ron Jules.

Leon attributes his win to a number of successes over the past few years, including various projects and programs.

“Getting people involved in jobs and the economy.”

His focus for next term will be “more communication and community involvement in a number of the decisions on our table right now. Of course, we have our comprehensive community strategic plan and some of the implementation of some of those goals.”

Leon thinks the new council will work well together.

“I think it changes the dynamic and in a very positive way. I definitely look forward to working with the new team and moving some of the major projects forward.”
