Summer weather to end with a boom
Is summer over?
Environment Canada warns that a big change in the weather pattern is expected to take place this weekend.
"The ridge of high pressure that produced a week of sunny dry weather and several temperature records is forecast to break down," says the Environment Canada alert issued just after 4 p.m. Friday. "As the ridge collapses on Sunday, very moist and unstable air will surge northward."
Thunderstorms with lightning, downpours, hail and gusty winds will develop over much of the Interior beginning as early as Sunday night and continuing through Monday.
By late Tuesday, a series of Pacific storms will begin arriving from the west, bringing cooler air and occasionally wet weather through the week.
"The next few spectacular days will probably be the last of a very fine summer," said the alert.
The public is advised to monitor future forecasts and warnings as warnings may be required or extended.
