Group rallies to make Christmas brighter for kids
For one Chase group, an annual get-together is about more than a few laughs among neighbours, but about the smile on a child’s face.
Thanks to a group at Chabelos Resort in Chase, there is sure to be some holiday cheer spreading throughout the village this year.
Each year the resort invites all of their guests to attend a special social. The afternoon includes a potluck dinner, but it’s the generosity behind the event that makes it stand out.
While the event is free, a suggested donation of one new toy per guest is requested from those attending.
Last year’s event brought in a whopping $1,100 worth of toys. This year it was even better, with $2,600 worth of toys collected.
The toys have been donated to the Chase Hamper Society who will be setting up their toy shop in November.
The Chase Hamper Society relies on community support such as this to fill its shelves each year.
The society is in need of toys for both girls and boys, from newborn to age 15, and will take anything from toy trucks and dolls to gift certificates.
There is often a special need for items suited to older boys.
As the toys are given as Christmas gifts, all donations are asked to be new.
The toy shop will officially open its doors between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. each Saturday beginning Nov. 23.
