Tobacco thieves thwarted

Two men, believed to be “travelling criminals” with connections to Alberta, are in custody, following an attempted robbery at the Canada Safeway store on the Trans-Canada Highway.

At  approximately 3:30 a.m. Friday, June 6, members of Safeway’s night shift noticed a robbery in progress and alerted the RCMP.

Police discovered two men in the process of helping themselves to more than $10,000 worth of tobacco products from the store.

“The men are known to police and to move around committing these sorts of crimes,” said Sgt. Carlos Tettolowski.

The men were to appear in court Monday.
