Firefighters were called to the downtown Canada Post office on Hudson Avenue Thursday afternoon, responding to reports of a chemical smell there.

Workers were evacuated.

When firefighters arrived, they put up a ladder at the back of the building and monitored the roof.

It's thought wires belonging to a malfunctioning air conditioning or heater unit might have caused the odour.

Maintenance workers were called in to deal with the problem.
