A rare astronomical event darkened the skies above the Shuswap on August 21. A solar eclipse obscured a portion of the sun between approximately 9:30 and 11:30 a.m.

Those who had purchased or made the necessary equipment to safely view the eclipse were dazzled as the moon passed in front of the sun, leaving only a faint crescent of the sun visible at the peak of the eclipse.
