The race for Shuswap has expanded.

Kevin Babcock will represent the Green Party during the May provincial election.

“People don’t want to be dependent on government money, people don’t want to be dependent on government job creation,” said Babcock, who works at the Canoe plywood plant and formerly worked in the railway and aerospace industries in the Lower Mainland.

“I want to empower people to work towards their own career path – create their own job and their own income, to make achievements that give them pride. The B.C. Green poverty reduction plan and commitment to a better education will give people the safety net they need to put their lives in their own hands.”

Andrew Weaver, Green leader, welcomes Babcock’s nomination.

“Kevin is an incredibly thoughtful person and cares deeply about the environment and his community,” said Weaver.

Babcock is finishing up his bachelor of arts in philosophy at Thompson Rivers University.

Also running in the election are Liberal incumbent Greg Kyllo and Sylvia Lindgren, with the NDP.
