Immediately following the initial collision, a westbound 1999 Honda Civic driven by an 18-year-old woman from Blind Bay was unable to stop and crashed into the accident scene.

The driver of the Dodge was taken by air ambulance to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, the driver of the Sierra was taken to Kamloops by ground ambulance and the driver and passenger of the Civic were taken to Shuswap Lake General Hospital with minor injuries.

The highway was closed for approximately two hours, re-opening to traffic at 5:40 p.m.
