So far, so good on Mt. Ida

There may have been smoke, but so far, there is no evidence of fire.

Fire Information Officer Melany Morin says Wildfire B.C. is taking the reports of smoke received after 4 Thursday afternoon very seriously.

But, while crews scour the mountain, as of 2 p.m. today, no fire has emerged.

Salmon Arm Fire Chief Brad Shirley says he was told Thursday night by someone completely unconnected to the fire service, that the storm that rocked through Salmon Arm spawned a lightning strike on the east side of the mountain, near where a small plane crashed last year.

Shirley has not heard anything about smoke or a possible fire since.

Morin says BC Wildfire continues to search the mountain carefully.
