People found themselves without electricity Tuesday afternoon following a single-vehicle collision on Highway 97A.

At approximately 1 p.m. on Aug. 22, a southbound tractor-trailer unit struck a concrete barrier while rounding curves in a 60-km/hr zone along the highway, about five kilometres south of Sicamous.

The tractor-trailer unit flipped and came to a rest on its side, blocking both lanes.

A hydro pole was sheared off in the collision, causing a power outages to approximately 630 BC Hydro customers.

Sicamous RCMP Sgt. Murray McNeil says speed was a factor in the collision, and the driver, who wasn’t injured, was issued a ticket for crossing a double solid line.

The highway remained closed until 8:40 p.m. while hydro workers, emergency responders and others tended to the collision and downed power lines.

Power wasn’t restored until 8:30 p.m.
