Aron “Ernie” Neustaeter passed away Wed. Nov. 24th, 2010 at Bastion Place at the age of 90.
Born Dec.6, 1919 at Chortitz, Mb. He was the eldest of eleven children born to Aron & Anna Neustaeter.
Ernie was predeceased by his wife Helen of 60 years in Feb. 2005 and an infant daughter Nora in 1964.
He is survived by 4 children: Doug ( Sandra ) of Merritt, B.C., Ron ( Debbie ) of Morden, Mb., Jim ( Wendy ) of Salmon Arm, B.C., Noreen ( Tim ) Morrissey of Sanford, Fla., 11 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
Dad and mom started their married life in Gladstone, Mb. where dad worked for Stout’s Service and then Gladstone Transfer.
In 1963, they moved to Churchbridge, Sask. where they owned and operated a Macleod’s store. Dad was the first fire chief for the fire dept in Churchbridge.
In 1971, dad and mom moved to Salmon Arm, where dad worked as Assistant Manager at the Macleod’s store. In 1976, dad started work at Mainline Coop in the Hardware Department until his retirement.
In their retirement years their adventures continued. They visited their daughter Noreen and her family in Brazil, enjoyed heading south as snowbirds, traveling extensively throughout Canada and the U.S.
Never one to sit still, Dad tried his hand at many different tasks including amateur radio, landscape painting and woodworking including clock building and furniture making.
Dads’ visits to his kids homes were eagerly anticipated because it meant lots of projects being finished.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Thursday, Dec.2nd at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church at 3151-6th Ave. N.E. Salmon Arm with Pastor Larry Dyck officiating. Memorial donations in memory of Ernie can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Sunnybrae Bible Camp.
