LOCKERBY (nee Jenn) , Audrey Agnes: It is with great sadness that the family of Audrey Agnes Lockerby (nee Jenn) announce her passing at the age of 86 yrs. Audrey was born in Dodsland, SK on August 5th, 1921. She died suddenly after a short illness on February 28th, 2008 in Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, B.C.
She is survived by Harry, her loving husband and constant companion of 58 years, and her children; Jeanine Joelson (Marvin) and children Tanya (Jason), Dawn and Kelly; Deirdre Church (Gordon) and children Derek (Alisha), Luke and Julia; Desiree Maher-Schley (Rick) and children Jim (Sophie), Harmony, Tess and Megan; Mark Lockerby; and Jenn Lockerby (Gina) and children Hannah, Calvin and Micah. Audrey also was the proud great-grandma to Aurora, James and Josiah. She is also survived by two sisters; Marje Ball and Shirley Kerr and brother, Eric Jenn. Audrey was predeceased by her brother Clive Jenn, brothers-in-law Bill Ball and Doug Kerr, sister-in law Grace Jenn, her nephews Darryl Jenn and Trent Ball, her son-in law Jamie Maher, and grandson Connor Maher.
Audrey attended normal school in SK obtaining her teaching certificate. She then taught for many years in SK and northern B.C. before her marriage to Henry Charles Lockerby on July 25, 1951 in Vancouver, B.C. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Celista, B.C. in the North Shuswap, until moving to Salmon Arm, B.C. Audrey went back to university in 1968 and got her B.Ed. degree in 1971 from the University of British Columbia. Audrey taught elementary school and was the school librarian for many years in Salmon Arm, B.C., until her retirement in 1985. Audrey was an incredibly strong, smart woman who had many interests. She was an avid gardener, reader and collector of stamps, coins and books. Her love of music always sustained her and she cherished being able to sing with the Salmon Arm Seniors Choir. Most of all she will be remembered as a loving, caring wife, sister, mother, and grandmother. Her regular calls, cards and letters connected the family and were the constant thread through all of our lives. She will be sadly missed, but always remembered.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Drs. Kolkind, Penner and Weicker for their excellent care. A sincere thank you is also extended to Dr. Prasad, Jane, Margaret and all of the nursing staff of the ICU, Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, B.C.
A memorial service to commemorate her life will be held at Fischer’s Funeral Home in Salmon Arm, B.C. on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 1:00 pm.
