Aurel Virginia Wilson,(nee Nichols), passed away peacefully at Shuswap Lake General Hospital on Saturday morning, May 16,2009, at the age of 90 years, after a short but valiant fight with cancer. Aurel was born to Chris and Ruby Nichols, at a farm house, near Red Deer Alberta . In 1939, Aurel met and married Jack Wilson from Calgary, later moving to Hartell, southwest of Calgary, where they farmed, trucked, and were involved in the community, and church in Black Diamond. There they raised their two children, Virginia and Chris. Aurel was especially known for her talents of sewing,crafts and cake decorating. In 1962, Jack, Aurel, and son Chris moved to Tappen, B.C., where they farmed. Later they moved to Salmon Arm, and Aurel helped design and decorate many of the houses built by her husband. Aurel was soon known for her talents and abilities ,as well in B.C., and was active with ladies groups in the Baptist and Alliance Churches here in Salmon Arm.
Aurel was predeceased by her husband Jack, daughter Virginia, and her two sisters, Millie and Bernice. She will be greatly missed by her son Chris, daughter-in-law Carole, granddaughters, Sheila Wolfe and family, and Kimberly Boyd and family; son-in-law Winston Johnson, grandson Bryan Johnson and family, granddaughter Barb Favell and family and grandson Chris Johnson and family. Also she will be fondly remembered by many nieces, nephews and friends.
The families of Aurel Wilson would like to give special recognition and thanks to Dr. Cindy Malinosky , the staff of Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Community Care nurses and workers, Red Cross, Hospice, and many neighbours and friends who aided in the care and comfort of Aurel.
A celebration of life was held at the chapel of Fischer’s Funeral Services, at 1p.m., May 21,2009. Interment followed at Mt. Ida Cemetary. Donations in Aurel’s name can be made to Shuswap Hospital Foundation, Box 265, Salmon Arm, B.C. V1E 4N3.
