Bertha Evelyn May (Bert) Brecknell passed away peacefully with her family at her side in Hillside Village, Salmon Arm, BC on Wednesday, August 19, 2009 at the age of 70 years.

A celebration of life reception will be held at the Salmon Arm Community Centre on Saturday afternoon, August 29th from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. with words of remembrance beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Born in Golden, BC on October 1, 1938, Bert was a registered nurse prior to raising her family. She is fondly remembered for her dedication with her family, grandchildren, horses and German Shepherds. She had a passion for gardening, flowers and cooking, which included her famous chocolate chip cookies.

Bert leaves her husband, Edward Raymond (Ted) Brecknell; three children, Ed (Kjara) of Salmon Arm, Suzie (Sergio) Dasilva of West Kelowna and Doug of Ottawa; six grandchildren, Taylor, Megan, Riley, Connor, Zach and Dylan; brother George (Selma Jo) Richards of West Vancouver; sisters, Annie Wilson, Betty Holland and Polly Potter, all of Golden. She was predeceased by her parents, George and Johannes Richards and sister, Lena Phillips.

The family acknowledges with great appreciation all the staff at Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Harmony Haven and Hillside Village. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Shuswap Hospital Foundation, earmarked for the CT Scan, Box 265, Salmon Arm, BC, VIE 4N5.
