The family announces with profound sadness the sudden passing of Daniel James McCauley at Vancouver General Hospital, from pulmonary hypertension with no diagnostic cause, on Thursday, April 10th, 2008 at the age of 54.

Dan was born at New Westminster, B.C. on November 19, 1953 and had been a long time resident of the Shuswap area.

Dan had many fond memories of his years belonging to Teen Town in Salmon Arm as well as the Quarter Milers Car Club. He also enjoyed, for many years, coaching a women’s fastball team, playing recreational hockey, men’s fastball and slo-pitch. He also loved camping, water skiing, and snow skiing. Dan was a past member of the Kinsmen Club, on the Liquid Waste Planning Committee and the President of the Carlin and District Recreation Association.

Dan was employed with the Ministry of Transportation and Highways for many years, as well as with VSA, Emcon, Argo, Okanagan Aggregates Ltd. and Sealcoat Surfacing Ltd. which had him travelling around B.C. In 1985 Dan started his own business known as Dan McCauley Trucking and was located in the Carlin/White Lake area. Dan loved trucking and all the people he met along the way. He always made time to visit and loved conversation and was known for his great sense of humour. He was a very kind and generous man, always ready to help others. Dan’s home and family were his passion and words can not express how much he loved his boys.

Dan will be lovingly remembered and missed by his wife, Cathy; two sons, Colin and Todd; father, James(Susan) McCauley; two sisters, Lois (Alf) Fleming and Enid McCauley; brothers-in law, Robert Scafe, Gordie (Barb) Scafe, and Barry Scafe; sisters-in law, Cindy (Craig) Fleischhacker and Val (Fred) Nakashima; numerous nieces and nephews and many extended family members. He was predeceased by his mother, Audrey, in 1987, sister, Martha, in 2007 and father-in-law Gordon in 2008.

A celebration of Dan’s life will be at The Gathering Place, 350-30th street NE, Salmon Arm on Saturday, April 19th at 11:00 a.m., with Capreece Bowers officiating. Cremation will follow.
