Douglas James Christie passed away peacefully at his residence in Cedar Heights, Sorrento, BC in the early hours of Friday, July 11, 2008 at the age of 79 years.

The Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated from Our Lady of the Lake Catholic Church in Sorrento on Thursday, July 17th at 11:00 a.m. with Father George La Grange, OMI, the celebrant. Cremation with interment followed in St. Mary’s Cemetery. A reception followed in the parish hall which allowed time for the family and friends to continue sharing memories of Doug.

Born in Rosetown, Saskatchewan on September 5, 1928, Doug worked for BC Rail for 38 years. He was terminal supervisor at Fort St. John, BC prior to moving to Cedar Heights in 1990.

Doug is survived by his loving family, wife, Jean; five children, Ian (Cyndy) of Sorrento, Catherine (Bruce) Excell of Victoria, Jim (Anna) of North Vancouver, Judy of Vernon and Hugh (Susan) of Comox; three grandchildren, Andrew, Benjamin and Stephanie; and three sisters, Mary (Bill) O’Donovan of White Rock, Marjorie Henke of Kelowna and Mabel Potts of San Jose, CA.

Jean would like to thank all of our neighbours and friends for their kindness over the past year. To the nurses and support staff of Community Care, as Doug has told many of you, “Thank you. You do a good job!”
