It is with great sadness and immeasurable love that we announce the passing of our beloved Mom and Grandma, Edna Redman on October 14, 2009 at Bastion Place. After a short and uneven battle with cancer, Edna passed away with her daughters and youngest granddaughter by her side.

Born in Kinistino, SK on August 13, 1940, then at a very young age she moved to Winnipeg, MB. Once she turned 17 she decided to visit relatives in Salmon Arm, loving Salmon Arm she decided not to return to Winnipeg. Working at the Tavern Inn, she met the love of her life, Graham. Two years later they were married in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. They wasted no time starting their family, having three daughters within four and a half years.

Edna was a great neighbourhood “mom,” making endless popsicles for all the kids, healing their wounds, watching all the parades and plays. Being a victim of nikki nikki nine doors, and prank phone calls. She loved all the Shirley’s, Green’s, Tatchell’s and Nobb’s kids, but always knew when it was the right time to send them home, before anything got out of control.

Edna was a very patient wife, if her husband was not working or fighting fires he could be found downstairs running his model railroad trains, this giving her the chance to watch her favourite sports on TV: football, golf, curling but most importantly, the Canucks!

Edna enjoyed her grandkids, a great love for dogs, not only the several ones she had but also all her daughters’ dogs too, camping, horseshoes, kick the can, murder in the dark, music, bowling and cards.

Edna’s working years at the City of Salmon Arm, MacLeod’s Hardware, Fili’s Deli, Shuswap Radiators and Windowland (for the past 10 years), allowed her to work with such great people and develop loyal friendships. She lived selflessly and was most often found trying to make everyone’s life just a little bit better. Edna touched countless lives with her smile and generosity over the years, and she maintained her sense of humour all the way to the end. She will be missed.

Edna was predeceased by her father Robert Hughes, mother Edith Kelly, and in 2004 her husband and soulmate Graham Redman. Where they are now together forever!

She will be lovingly remembered by her 3 daughters and what she considered the best 3 son-in-laws: Margaret (Nathan) McCurdy, Sheryle (Rod) Unrau, Kerry (Kevin) Ambler, 6 very special grandchildren: Justin and Jennifer McCurdy, Tyler and Ashley Unrau, Taylor and Tyson Ambler.

As well, she leaves 2 brothers Bob (Marilyn) and Ted (Loni) Hughes, 2 sisters: Agnes Woodsworth, Margaret McMullan and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express a sincere thank you to Dr. Heunis and the staff at Bastion Place for the love and care you gave our mom during her short stay.

As requested by Edna, a private service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Salmon Arm SPCA.
