Ellenor (Nellie) (Porterfield) Kranna, born April 26, 1923, died February 19, 2009 at Hilton Villa Care Home, Surrey BC. She was predeceased by her husband Bob Kranna.
Nellie’s parents worked in lumber camps around Shuswap Lake and she did her schooling by correspondence until the family moved to Engineer’s Point and then she walked three miles along the CPR tracks to Canoe to attend school. The family later moved into Salmon Arm where she attended high school.
She will be remember for her work running the Tavern Inn Cafe in downtown Salmon Arm for Tom Middleton when he joined the army in the Second World War. After the war, Nell moved to Penticton. She was an avid curler and met her husband through curling. Together they operated a small orchard in
Penticton until his death.
She is survived by her son Steven and grand-daughter Lyndsey of Victoria, BC; her sister, Jean Sansum of New Westminster, niece Judith English, Ottawa and nephew, Jay Sansum of Surrey, BC.
