Elwood Vernon (Dougie) Douglas was born in Newnorway, Alberta on September 22, 1924. He owned and managed two automotive body shops in Whitecourt and Mayerthorpe Alberta, called Doug’s auto body. Dougie moved away from Alberta years ago, residing in the Shuswap for many years. A quiet man, he is well remembered and respected for his love of music, the guitar, and enjoyment of reading.

He was predeceased by his wife, Ida, one son, Kelly Dwayne at 2 years of age, his long time companion, Lillian Edwards; sisters, Irene and Dolly, and Brother Donald.

Dougie is survived by his four children, Peggy of Richmond, Brett (Joyce) of Prince George, Bruce (Marie) of Port Moody, Bradley (Tabitha) of Fredericton; 8 grandchildren and 1 great grandson; his longtime caregivers, Linda Gaze and Bobbie Kenoras and their family.

A celebration of life service was held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home on Tuesday morning, January 26th at 10 a.m. with Jack Bowers the celebrant.

Tributes were shared by family and friends, with an open house following at the Linda Gaze residence.

Cremation followed with interment to follow later in the family plot in Northern Alberta.
