Evelyn Elizabeth Archibald (nee Cowan)

September 1, 2009

After 99 years and one month, Ev Archibald died peacefully on September 1, 2009.

Born Evelyn Elizabeth Cowan, she was the daughter of Wilda & Colonel William Cowan, and the sister of William. Her younger sister, Kathleen, died when Ev was four, a loss which touched her deeply and left a sad place in her heart forever. Ev was raised in Toronto, going on to Library Science.

After a shipboard romance with Charles Brenton Archibald, she “moved out west” to marry him and raise her family in Vancouver. The Archibalds retired in Chase, B.C., wintering in California. Ev was widowed in 1984.

Her three daughters: Kathy Archibald, Carol Holloway and Marg Archibald are filled with admiration for this beautiful woman who raised and loved them. She taught them to appreciate culture and never let them forget they were valued; that whatever happened, they were worthy of love and respect, and that they would succeed at their choices.

To her grandchildren, Nana was a source of pride: Chris Arnet, Andrew Barnes, Sonia Schnitzer and Ivan Holloway. Her great-grandchildren are Allysa Jordon, Kazimir and Bodan Schnitzer and Charles Barnes.

A memorial service will be held at Schoening Funeral Service in Kamloops, B.C. at 2 p.m., Saturday, September 26. No flowers, thank you. Please make a donation to Foster Parent Plan or a charity of your choice.

Chase residents who can offer rides or need rides, contact (250) 377-3111 before September 23.

The family would like to thank the staff at Ridgeview, who gave unending love and comfort without fail during the last year of Ev’s life. The level of care they gave was astonishing.
