George Victor Carlson passed away in Shuswap Lake General Hospital in the early hours of Sunday, September 20, 2009 at the age of 82 years.

A celebration of life service was held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm, on Saturday afternoon, September 26th at 1 p.m. with Jack Bowers as the funeral celebrant, assisted by soloist Catherine Kroetch.

A reception  followed in the Mountainside room at Bowers, which  allowed family and friends to continue sharing memories.

Born in Nightingale, Alberta on November 16, 1926. George arrived in Salmon Arm in October of 1955 with employment at Salmon Arm Farmer’s exchange. In 1957 his historical career in the automotive industry began with work in such places as Dearborne Motors, Columbia auto customs, BA Lake Motors, Braby’s, Harold’s Texico, Union 76, Husky, Northwood Mobile Home. In April of 1988 he started Mid Town auto service and continued working with his son, Gary, until failing health would not allow him the energy to work. Gary continues the tradition his father started.

George is well remembered and respected for his mechanical skills.  He had the ability to fix anything, which was recognized by his customers and fellow mechanics.

George was predeceased by his daughter, Theresa Ann Garcia in 2001 at the age of 50 years.

George leaves his loving and dedicated family, wife, Jean; son, Gary (Gail); son in law, Joe Garcia of Penticton; grandchildren, Aaron (Sarah) Carlson and Stephanie Garcia; great granddaughter, Darian Isaac; Brothers, John of Grand Prairie, Charles and Bob of Nightingale; sister, Helen Elliott of Carbon, Alta; numerous nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be directed to the Shuswap Hospital Foundation, PO Box 265, Salmon Arm, BC VIE 4N3, in memory of George Carlson.
