Harriett Marguerite King passed away peacefully at Shuswap Lake General Hospital on October 12, 2009, at the age of 85 years.

Harriett was born in Cleveland, Ohio on October 16, 1923. Harriett, and her husband Jack, married in 1942 and lived in Peace River, Edmonton, and Greater Vancouver before retiring in 1973. In 1980, Harriett and Jack, relocated to Canoe, where they lived for many years. Harriett enjoyed the care and companionship at Bastion Place for the past four years.

Harriett is lovingly remembered by her son, John (Fran) of Vernon; 3 grandchildren, Tanya, Adrian (Darcey) and Megan; three great-grandchildren, McKenna, Avery, Elliott; and her twin brother, Herbert (Jessie) Smith of Erie, Pennsylvania.  She is predeceased by her husband, Jack, and her four sisters.

Harriett was an avid reader, and was never without a book. She also enjoyed baking, knitting, and sewing. Harriett looked forward to her trips as a snowbird to the Arizona desert where she and Jack and their brothers and sisters-in-law enjoyed many hours around the campfire. Harriett received great pleasure from her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her faith was very important to her.

The funeral service will be held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home on Wednesday, October 21 at 1:00 pm with Doug Morse, Pierre Dicaire and Lynnelle Hagan officiating. Interment will follow at the Mt. Ida Cemetery. A reception will be held at Bowers’ Mountainside Room.

In lieu of flowers a memorial donation may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, Osteoporosis Canada or Bastion Place Bus Campaign.
