Irma Kurtz passed away peacefully February 8, 2017 after a short illness. Irma was born April 14, 1932 in Ponteix, Saskatchewan. She married John Kurtz, the love of her life, on April 25, 1950 in Regina Saskatchewan. They moved to Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan to start a family business in 1974 and to British Columbia in 2004 to be closer to their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were the joy of her life.

Irma worked in several areas of the Regina Health Care system including radiology and pharmacy, and was an accountant for Moose Jaw Packers, their family business. Irma was a true spiritual humanitarian all of her life. She was a member of The Catholic Women’s League of Canada for over 44 years and honoured to be an Extra-Ordinary Minister of Holy Communion. She also provided pastoral care hospital visits. Irma volunteered for the Pregnancy Crisis Line and the Salmon Arm Thrift Store. She was an addiction sponsor and support group leader. She donated to a variety of charities including the Canadian Diabetes Association, Heart and Stroke, and BC Children’s Hospital, and over the years sponsored several foster children in developing countries.

Irma, John and family enjoyed many years at the family cabin at East Trout Lake in northern Saskatchewan. We would often find mom visiting with friends, reading a book by the fire or sitting on the deck listening to the birds and enjoying the serenity. Irma and John enjoyed travelling and spent 23 winters at their second home in Mexico. Our family are avid Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Fans and mom will be cheering for them from Heaven.

Predeceased by her parents, Horace and Irene Bleau, brothers Arthur, Donald and Orphil, and sisters Annette, Alice, Eva, Madeline, and Regeande. She will be remembered and sadly missed by her husband and father of her children, John Kurtz, and their 3 children, Gregory Kurtz (Theresa), Deborah Kurtz (Alan), and Donna Kurtz. Also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren Lucas, Trina (Adam), David (Conni), Cameron (Alisa), Matthew (Becky), Natalie, and Alexandra (Jeff) and 13 great-grandchildren. Irma will be dearly missed by her only surviving sibling, her little sister Elaine, and her many beloved nieces, nephews and friends.

A memorial mass will be held Friday February 17, 2017, 1:00 pm at Joseph Catholic Church, 60 – 1st Avenue SE Salmon Arm, British Columbia with Father George LaGrange officiating. The Catholic Women’s League of Canada will provide an Honour Guard and lunch after the service.

The family wishes to express deep gratitude for the excellent care provided by the many physicians, nurses, and staff of the Kelowna General Hospital Emergency Department and 6 West.
