It is with profound sadness that we acknowledge the passing of Jack Spencer. Jack died unexpectedly Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the age of 57 years. He fought a very brave uphill battle with cancer for the past 7 months.
Jack leaves behind to mourn, his wife Joan, children Cody (Andrea) and Alaina, two brothers John (Jocelyn), Jerry (Jacquie and their children Jeremy (Sue), Stephanie, and Michael), father-in-law Peter Semenoff, and brother-in-law Larry Seminoff. Predeceased by his father James and mother Julia, and mother-in-law, Ann.
Jack was born in Montreal, Quebec and migrated to BC in the 70’s. He worked various jobs from letter carrier to industrial first aid attendant, and lastly as an industrial electrician.
A hobby for wine making turned into a passion for experimenting with many varieties of grapes in search of the perfect wine. He welcomed every challenge presented to him and loved to talk about wine or generously to share his bounty with anyone who showed interest. Jack had a wonderful interest in life and always enjoyed learning new things.
We respect Jack’s final wishes for no formal service. A private family gathering will be held to celebrate his life. It was Jack’s wish for people not to grieve, but rather to share a glass of wine, a cherished moment and maybe a chuckle or two in memory of him. We will forever miss that smile and laugh, and his lighthearted easy-going, gentle spirit.
We also wish to thank good friends Ian Turner and Randy Buckmaster for their support and friendship. Thanks also to other caring family members, kind neighbors and friends, and the wonderful team of medical professionals who worked so hard on Jack’s behalf.
The beast took Jack from us far too soon but we are comforted that he is resting peacefully, perhaps in the vineyard that he always dreamt of.
