John was born in New Westminster BC on October 9, 1931 and passed away in Shuswap Lake General Hospital after a brief illness on March 28, 2010 at the age of 78.
John grew up in Ladner BC and was the youngest of four children born to John and Margaret Chorlton. He was predeceased by his parents and his one sister Mary Gourley. He is survived by two sisters Fran Moore and Margaret (Duncan) Montgomery.
John married Elsie Beetstra in Abbotsford BC on March 10, 1961. John was employed by BC Tel and was transferred to the Sorrento area in 1972 as the District Repairman. He retired in April 1987 after 35 years of service with the company. He was a proud member of the Sorrento Lion’s Club, serving as the Zone Chairman and he volunteered many hours with the club along with his many buddies.
John was also predeceased by his wife Elsie after 25 years of marriage on March 24, 1986. He is survived by his five children, Barb (Brian) Burgess, Lynn (Gary) Konrad, Sandra (Jim) Rhodes, Susan (Dennis) Johnsrude and Jack (Janelle) Chorlton. John also leaves behind his ten grandchildren, Aaron, Jena, Carson, Danielle, Jordyn, Danika, Adam, Evan, Nathan and Kyle.
By John’s request there will be no funeral service.
