It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of John Francis Pilkington. He passed away from a lengthy illness with much dignity and pride at home on April 11, 2008 with his friends and family by his side.

John was born in Sunderland Ontario on June 21, 1934 to Frank and Elizabeth Pilkington. He was a pipeliner all his life and travelled all over the world with his job. He was well known in the horse world for raising thoroughbred race horses...he always said they were the best in the valley. John had a quick wit, keen sense of humour and a strong heart. He and his family moved to Salmon Arm in 1972 and has been a resident here for 36 years.

John is survived by his daughter, BJ (Dean) Holfeld and grandchildren Caleb and Amy Holfeld, his step-mother May, all of Airdrie, AB, his daughter Lori (Gary) Degrath and their son Gavin Hamilton of Ontario, numerous brothers, sisters, cousins, nieces and nephews all of Ontario as well as his ex-wife Pat Pilkington of Crossfield, AB. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank & Elizabeth Pilkington, His brothers; Tommy, Paul and Mike and his sister Nora.

John was a well liked man with many wonderful friends. He will be forever missed. The family would like to thank John’s long time friend, Rhonda Przoda for her friendship and care for John in his last days.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, April 19, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. from St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with Father George LaGrange omi Celebrant. A potluck (John’s favourite) reception will follow the service at Fischer’s Funeral Services, 4060 1st Ave @ TC Hwy. If so desired, memorial donations in John’s name may be made to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, BC Branch, #320 – 1600 6th Avenue W., Vancouver, BC, V6J 9Z9.
