Katherine Freed (nee Fehr) went to be with her Lord and Saviour on April 13th, 2009 at Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm, at the age of 85 years. Katherine spent her last day surrounded in love by family and friends.

Katherine was predeceased by her dear husband Alfred in 1986, parents Cornelius and Maria Fehr, stepmother Anna and 13 brothers and sisters.

Katherine was born April 27th, 1923 in McMahon, SK. She was the youngest of the first ten children. After her mother died, her father married Anna Siemens and they had seven more children.

Katherine married the love of her life, Alfred Freed on April 1st, 1942. They had two children Ronald and Elaine. Alfred and Katherine spent many years in Wyndel and Creston, BC where they farmed and had a small dairy. Katherine was known for her generosity and hospitality to everyone in her community. She and Alfred were active members of the Pentecostal Church in Creston.

She leaves to mourn her passing, her daughter Elaine Kwasnicki of Sandspit, son Ronald (Joan) Freed of Salmon Arm, eight grandchildren; Jason (Ronaye), Lori, Raylene, Shona, Laurie, Kerri (Kevin), Michelle (Masaya) and Melanie (Graham). She will also be missed by her three chosen grandchildren; Gray, Walks and Blue as well as 13 great grandchildren, her sisters Nettie (Eldon) Telford, of Edmonton, Anne Wiebe of Swift Current and Betty (Bill) Klassen of Delta BC.

We wish to thank the incredible caring staff at Bastion Place where Katherine spent her last month. We also appreciated the compassionate staff at Shuswap Lake General Hospital and Dr. James Levins who provided care to Katherine for many years.

A funeral service was held at Five Corners Pentecostal Church at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 18th with Pastor Ken Finstad officiating. Interment followed on Monday, April 20th in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Creston, where she was laid to rest with Alfred.

Memorial donations in Katherine’s name may be made to Five Corner’s Pentecostal Church, “Missions” (please note on memo line of cheque), 3160 10th Avenue SE, Salmon Arm, BC, V1E 1W8.
