It is with great sadness we announce the peaceful passing of our mom Laura on December 16th, 2023. She was born April 28th, 1924, in Kamloops into pioneer families the Mobley's of Sunnybrae and the Farrell's of Tappen.

She was predeceased by her husband Doug and son Terry. Laura is survived by daughters Gail and Laura Lee (Larry), daughter-in-law Jane, six grandchildren, five great grandchildren and many other relatives.

Laura loved life, her family, gardening, preserving, crafts, volunteering, and genealogy. She was a lifelong learner and always the ultimate environmentalist, always advocating for a clean Shuswap Lake.

She attended the Sunnybrae School until grade 8, Salmon Arm High School until grade 12, and Pittman's Business College in Vancouver.

She met Doug when he was working on the CPR passenger train to Vancouver and the romance was on. They married June 18th, 1949 and raised their family in Revelstoke until they retired and moved to Sunnybrae.

She worked for a short while at Beers Ladies Wear Store in Salmon Arm, did office work in Vancouver and the CPR office in Revelstoke. While raising her family she worked in the Glacier and Mount Revelstoke National Parks office for 20 years. Most importantly, she was the wife of a railroader who had a varied work schedule.

Laura saw the good in everyone. She was a wonderful mom, and a tireless homemaker, always interested in life around her. We love you and will miss you always. Our hearts are heavy with our loss, but we will take comfort in knowing she is with her Father in Heaven.

A Celebration of Life will be held on April 27, 2024, from 2 to 4 pm at the Sunnybrae Seniors Hall. Everyone welcome. In lieu of flowers donations are welcome to the Doug Burkitt Memorial Fund at the Shuswap Community Foundation.

We will gather for the interment on April 28th, 2024, at Mt. Ida Cemetery, Salmon Arm which poignantly marks the date of her 100th birthday.
