On April 7, 2010 Lester passed away peacefully at Shuswap Lake General Hospital with family members by his side at the age of 79 years. He was born October 23, 1930.

Les is survived by wife Lucy and children, Henry, Donna, Dorry (Don), Annie (Tony) and Maureen (Jeff), grandchildren Gina, Bradley, Laura (Peter), April (Blair), Victor, Shane, Elisa, Lynn, River, Jett, Christian and Dieter Penkert, great grandchild, Demika Hayley, numerous nephews and nieces and foster children, two adopted daughters Nanci Penkert and Cheryl Card.

Les worked many years as a logger, millworker, carpenter, forester and last a court worker before becoming ill.

His hobbies were his passion for hockey and baseball/softball and he also had the opportunity to coach these sports. His memorable times were: spending time up in the mountains, hunting and picking huckleberries and just exploring in the mountains and also the time he spent with his family. He enjoyed the holiday dinners and birthday dinners with family.

Les’ funeral service was held Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Pierre’s Community Building with Father George LaGrange O.M.I. officiating. Jim Hamilton opened with a prayer and a brief story of Les. Jannie and Howard Johnson along with Trent Blunenthal sang “On the Wings of an Eagle” and “There’s Coming a Day”. Cremation followed.

A special thank you to the staff at Shuswap Lake General Hospital and Bastion Place for the wonderful care they provided for Les as well as to the family members and to the many friends for sharing their sorrow and offering your support. Your thoughtfulness is appreciated and will always be remembered.
