It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Margaret Hoekstra on August 25, 2010 at the age of 84. She is survived by her husband Eric to whom she was married for 53 years; son Wilmer (Valerie) and granddaughter Haley of Armstrong; son Tienus (Wanda) and granddaughter Jessi of Vernon; sister Kay deJong of Nelson, and many nieces, nephews and extended family members.
Margaret was the youngest of 12 children and a descendent of Swan River, Manitoba until the family moved to the Apex area in the Kootneys to farm in 1938. Margaret met Eric in Nelson two years after he immigrated from the Netherlands, and they were married in 1957. They farmed for three years in Apex before moving to Enderby, BC to start their own dairy farm. Margaret was very active in all aspects of running the farm and also helped milk the cows till she was in her late 60’s. Their family farm was a central visiting stop for many, many relatives and Margaret will be very fondly remembered for making everyone who visited feel welcomed and loved.
A graveside service will be held in Enderby on Friday, September 17, 2010 at 11:00 am for family and close friends, and a Memorial Tea and Refreshments will held at the Enderby & District Senior Citizens Center, 1101 George St. (on the highway) in the afternoon starting at 1:00 pm.
