Margaret (Marnie) Ruth Symborski

April 26, 2010

It is with great regret that we announce the passing of Marnie on April 26, 2010 at the Shuswap Lake General Hospital in Salmon Arm, B.C.

Marnie was born in Edmonton, Alberta, the daughter of Edsel and Dorothy East. She spent her early years in Edmonton, attending Oliver Elementary and Victoria Composite High School. Marnie was active athletically, primarily in competitive swimming and synchronized swimming as a member of the original Edmonton Aquadettes where she competed to the National Levels. Later she continued her aquatic efforts as a swimming coach and instructor, as well as becoming a proficient curler and duplicate bridge player.

After marrying Peter Symborski, Marnie resided in Bearspaw, Saskatchewan and Regina, Saskatchewan before moving to Calgary, Alberta in 1964. Upon retirement in 1996 Marnie and Peter moved to Celista, B.C.

Marnie is survived by her loving husband of 52 years, Peter, her four children: Kathy (Byron) Hilland of Calgary, Bruce Symborski of Calgary, Pat Symborski of Celista, Kerri (Wade) Trainor of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, and nine grandchildren. She was predeceased by her sister Dorothy Helen Barr, and her grandson Mitchell Hilland.

At Marnie’s request, there will be no funeral or public memorial service.

The family would like to thank doctors Trow, Tiessen, Main and McKee for their efforts on Marnie’s behalf. We cannot find words adequate to express our appreciation of the kind, compassionate and efficient care provided by the nursing staff of SLGH.
