June 14, 1952 - April 9, 2024

Forever in the Shepherd's arms ~

It is with mixed sadness and joy that we announce the passing of Margaret May (Maye) Cann on April 9, 2024, peacefully after a 20-year battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of her husband Donald (Don) Cann, who was also her lifelong traveling companion for 50 years.

Born June 14, 1952 in Prince Albert Sask. to James (Jim) and Margaret Millar, her love of travel began at an early age with family trips to Waskesiu.

Maye met her future travel partner Donald Cann in 1973 and were soon married in 1974. From Regina they journeyed together with Don's postings to Powel River, Trail, Kamloops, Terrace, Salmon Arm, Mission, before finally settling at home together in Salmon Arm.

In 1974 she welcomed the birth of her daughter Catherine, followed by her son Colin in 1975. It was Maye's belief that it was by travel that we expand who our family and neighbors are, and also appreciate the beauty of home and family.

Maye was also passionate about her knitting and her service through the Church in feeding people. Many years of working with Gleaner's and growing the HOPE (Helping Other People Eat) garden supplying fresh vegetables to the Second Harvest Foodbank in Salmon Arm.

Maye was predeceased by her Mom and Dad (Margaret and Jim Millar), and is survived by her husband Don, older sister Winifred, and younger brother Eoin. She will be deeply missed by her daughter Catherine and grandkids Lindsay and Brayden, as well as her son Colin and granddaughter Kasey.

The family would like to sincerely thank everyone at the Shuswap Family Practice and staff at Shuswap Lake General hospital, for their kind and caring support. In honor of Maye's passion for gardening, and her steadfast support of the Hope Garden, in lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made to Second Harvest at secondharvestshuswap@gmail.com
