Nora Clayden (née White) passed away on Sunday May 16, 2010 in Salmon Arm, B.C. Born Oct. 15, 1918 to Bartholomew & Mary Elisabeth White (née Davies) in Ramsbottom, Lancashire.

Youth activities included a girl guide membership, playing tennis and teaching Sunday School to pre-schoolers. During wartime Nora lived in London working both as a bus conductress and as a student nurse.

After marriage to William Clayden in 1946, the couple emigrated to Canada in 1952, arriving initially at Oyama and later moving to Salmon Arm in 1953. During many years, Nora was active in the Salmon Arm Sketch Club and the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary. Other activities included bowling in two separate leagues, rock hounding with friends Gordon and Joan Brooke, and also golfing.

More recently, Nora sang with the choir the “Revellers” and was a member of the Salmon Arm branch of the Red Hat Ladies.

She is survived by her three children: Brian (Susanna) of West Vancouver; Rona (David) of Cleveland, Australia; and Andrew (Susan) of Shannon, Quebec. Her grandchildren: Kay, Sam, Andrew, Quinn, Maisie and numerous nieces and nephews both in Canada and abroad.

Nora’s celebration of life will be held at the Crossroads Free Methodist Church, 121 Shuswap Avenue SW in Salmon Arm on Sat. June 5, 2010 at 2:00 pm.
