Phyllis Metcalfe Hatch (nee Awmack)

Phyllis, a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, was born in Marysville, B.C. and passed away peacefully at Arbor House in Salmon Arm, B.C.

Before marriage, Phyllis taught in several one-room schools in B.C. She then stayed home to raise a family of four, and was an amazing, talented and creative mother. During these years, Phyllis volunteered with autistic children. She joined Toastmistress, becoming an accomplished speaker as well as holding many executive positions, including President of the Pacific Northwest Region. When her children were grown, Phyllis enjoyed many years teaching Tai-chi to seniors as well as travelling world-wide with Ernie. She was predeceased by her husband, Ernie (2002), son, Ron (1993), brother, Joe Awmack (2006) and sister, Margaret Lake (1999). Phyllis will be greatly missed by her daughters, Cathy (Keith) McKibben of Dawson Creek, Maurine (Rein) Kahlke of Coldstream, Barbara (Val) Heckrodt of Deep Creek, daughter-in-law Elaine Hatch of Kelowna, sister-in-law, Maude Hatch of Victoria, her loving extended family in Victoria, the Lypkies and Roessinghs, nine grandchildren, four step-grandchildren, five great-grandchildren as well as other family members and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Arbor House for the compassionate care given to Phyllis.

A Memorial Service for the celebration of Phyllis’ life will be held on Saturday, September 4, 2010 at 2:30 p.m. at the Religious Society of Friends (Quakers) Meeting House in Victoria (1831 Fern Street).
