Rachael Eleanor Myfanwy “Fanw” Lloyd passed away following a struggle with health issues in Vancouver General Hospital on Tuesday evening, March 11, 2008, at the age of 78 years.

Born in Llanarth, West Wales on November 9, 1929, she trained as a registered nurse in Llanelli, Wales and later specialized in midwifery and radiotherapy. She worked throughout many regions of Britain before moving to Salmon Arm at Christmastime, 1964. In 1965, she joined the nursing team at Shuswap Lake General Hospital, later becoming head nurse on first floor.

She retired from her long career in nursing in 1989.

Fanw is well remembered and respected for her loyalty, generosity and love for her family.

Fanw was predeceased by her brother, Eric Lloyd in 2002, nephew, David Lloyd Walters in 2003, and her sister, Mati Walters in 2007. She leaves behind her sisters, Nelli and Margaret Lloyd of West Wales, Jean (Eric) Newsham of England, brother-in-law, Eric Walters of Salmon Arm and his sons, Richard of Salmon Arm, Glyn (Meghan) of Red Deer, Gwilym (Tara) of Westbank and Alun Walters of Salmon Arm.

A celebration of life service was held from the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home on Saturday morning, March 15, 2008 at 11:00 a.m., with Jack Bowers officiating, with tributes shared by Alun Walters and Anita Bouma. Cremation with interment to follow later at Mt. Ida Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Fanw may be made to the Shuswap Hospital Foundation, P.O. Box 265, Salmon Arm, BC, V1E 4N3.
