RAYMOND – It is with sadness that the extended family of Rita Raymond announce her passing which occurred in the Heritage Manor in Kindersley on March 29, 2010. She had moved back to Saskatchewan from Salmon Arm, BC, after the death of her husband in October 2007. She lived with her sister-in-law at Dodsland until April of 2008 then moved to Pioneer Haven in Kerrobert. On December 28, 2009, she moved to Heritage Manor and resided there until the time of her passing.
Rita Annie Deschner was born on July 26, 1923, on a farm near Carmelheim in the Leipzig area. In 1929, the family moved to a farm 10 miles from Dodsland. She attended school at Dowd Hill. She eventually moved to Calgary where she took a secretarial course, then worked in Calgary until she moved to Vancouver in 1958. In 1962, she married Jasper Raymond. In 1974, they moved to Salmon Arm, BC, and lived there for 34 years. They celebrated their 45th anniversary on August 25, 2007, and Jasper passed away on October 13th.
Rita and Jasper had no children of their own but were always interested in and involved with all of their nephews and nieces. They all have fond memories of “Auntie Rita”.
She was predeceased by her husband, Jasper; her parents, Henry and Therese Deschner; her only sister Madeline; and six brothers: Frank, Tony, Henry, Johnny, Jack and Melford; and sisters-in-law: Ruby, Alice, Julia and Dorothy; and brother-in-law, Bill Graham.
She is survived by one brother, Joe of Kelowna, BC; sisters-in-law, Cherry of Kelowna, BC, Genevieve of Vermilion, AB, and Sheila of Dodsland; plus numerous nieces and nephews.
Rita was cremated and a Celebration of her Life will be held on July 3 at 2:00 p.m. in Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Dodsland. The ashes wil be interred in the Dodsland Cemetery and following interment, the family will gather at the Deschner farm.
