CHAMBERLIN-RUTHweb

Ruth Della MacDonald Chamberlin born August 6, 1921, passed away peacefully, after complications from surgery, in her 89th year on January 25th, 2010. Ruth will be forever missed by her loving husband Guy; children, Della Ranger (Doug), Shirley Thompson (Doug), Nelson Chamberlin (Barb), Cliff Chamberlin (Barb), Leslyn Martin (George), Ken Chamberlin (Janice), Cynthia Chamberlin (Andreas), Catherine Chamberlin (David); as well as 22 well loved grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren plus two great grandchildren on their way; sister Oz, sister-in-laws: Ena, and Cora, sister & brother-in-law Florence & John Ward, as well as many nieces and nephews. Ruth was pre-deceased by grandson Robin, son-in-law Doug, and daughter-in-law Janice. Guy and Ruth met in 1939 and have been happily married since March 30, 1940. Five of their children were born in Quebec and another three followed in Ontario. In 1972, they moved to NWT where Ruth continued her teaching career as a Home Economics teacher until 1979 when they moved to Anglemont, B.C and finally Salmon Arm, B.C in 1998. Along with teaching, Ruth was passionate about swimming, dancing, crocheting, smocking, cribbage, bowling, reading and knitting for her many children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Ruth has always been an active member in the community; including involvement in the Anglemont Seniors Center, The Royal Canadian Legion, Ladies’ Auxiliary, and B.C Senior Games. Ruth competed in the BC Seniors Games as a swimmer, and sat on the Board of Directors for approximately 10 years. Ruth’s wonderful attitude about life has been passed down through the generations, and everything was possible in her eyes. Her constant activity was such a good role model for both family and friends--there was no sitting on the sidelines for her and she and Guy were always there when new feat presented itself. She has touched so many people and each one came away feeling younger, better and more able to face the world. For this we will be eternally grateful. Ruth and Guy planned to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary in Barbados with family and friends.

A celebration of life service will be held at the North Shuswap Community Hall, 5456 Squilax Anglemont Hwy, Celista, BC, on May 22, 2010 at 2 pm.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to The Royal Canadian Legion, Ladies’ Auxiliary, Br #62LA, 141 Hudson Ave., N.W., Salmon Arm, BC., V1E 1W3.
