Sheila Garraway

January 1, 2008

Our beloved Sheila died peacefully in Lions Gate Hospital in her 87 year after a brief illness. She was predeceased by her parents Allatt and May Peake, and her sisters Molly and Pat. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years Philip, her two daughters, Gillian Peake-Garraway and Brenda (Ron) Veerman, her two grandsons Matthew and Andrew, and her dearest sister Barbara Campbell.

Sheila was born in Kamloops and raised in Salmon Arm, B.C. After graduation from RIH school of nursing in 1943, she became a Lt. Nursing Sister during WWII. She married Philip in Sorrento in 1949, and together they built their loving home in North Vancouver, where they have resided since 1957. Summers were spent at the family cottage on Shuswap Lake in Sorrento, a truly precious place.

Sheila was a beautiful, compassionate and loving person. She was an active member of St. Catherines Church for many years. Sheila loved knitting and sewing and the outdoor life of birds, gardening, canoeing, fishing and camping in the hills of the Shuswap with the family. All of her extended family and friends loved her dearly. The memories shall live within us and our children forever.

A memorial service will be held on May 3, 2008, at 2 p.m., at St. Mary’s Church in Sorrento, B.C.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Heart and Stroke foundation, or the charity of your choice.
