Sofia (known as Sophie to her many friends in Salmon Arm) passed away peacefully after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Ray, her two children, Wayne Jamieson and Wendy Langford, five grandchildren (Jody and Amanda Langford, Ian and Kristen Jamieson, and Makala Herrera) plus three sisters and three brothers. She was fortunate to have had a wonderful week with all her grandchildren and other family members shortly before her passing.

Sofia (nee Smigielski) was born in Kraków, Poland and emigrated to Canada in 1933. She spent her early years in Northern Alberta and moved to British Columbia in 1945. She married Ray Jamieson in 1948 and had two children, living in Trail and finally in Salmon Arm for the past 19 years.

She was devoted to her extensive garden, which was her pride and joy – and provided many a feast for visitors. As well, she donated considerable time to her other labour of love, the Salmon Arm Thrift Shop.

She will surely be missed by her many friends and loving family.

Her family sends a special thank you to Dr. Theron, Sandra Dodds, and the many wonderful caregivers and nurses that were there for her and her family. Thank you as well to the Bastion Place staff for their kind support during her final moments. There will be no formal funeral service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Shuswap Hospice Society at Box 967, #209 – 231 Trans Canada Hwy NE, Salmon Arm.
