Wesley Albert Ennis

December 10, 2007

Wesley Albert Ennis passed away peacefully after a brief battle with cancer on Monday, December 10, 2007 in White Rock, B.C.

Wes was born to George and Pearl Ennis in Salmon Arm, B.C. on July 8, 1922. His early years were spent at Seymour Arm on the Shuswap Lake with his brothers, Alan and Ron, and sister, Florence. In 1936 they moved to Silver Creek, B.C. Leaving home at nineteen, Wes went to work as a wiper on the steam engines for the CPR in Field, B.C. During the war he joined the Canadian Armed Forces, serving in Italy, Belgium and Holland with the B.C. Dragoons from 1942-1945. He then returned to Revelstoke, B.C. and resumed his career on the railroad-- initially as a fireman, and then as a locomotive engineer. During this time he met his love and life partner and on May 30th, 1950, he married her, Ilean Isobel (Eileen) Page, daughter of Gus and Pauline Page of Sicamous, B.C. Together they raised three boys, Warren, Stan and Les. Wes retired from the CPR in 1983 and lived in Sicamous with Eileen until they moved to White Rock, B.C. in 2006.

Wes had one predominant focus in his life-- his family. His greatest love and devotion was for his wife of 57 years, Eileen, and to the day he died he adored and cared for her. He encouraged and supported his sons at all times with love, compassion, advice and support in all forms. He was a very genuine man and was always there to help anyone who asked for it. His modest home was always open to friends and family and the fruits of his labour in his garden were always shared with neighbours. He will be dearly missed by all those whose path he crossed. It is hope of Warren, Stan and Les to see their Dad live on through his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Wes is survived by his wife, Eileen, their three sons and daughters-in-law, eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held in the New Year.
