It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of William Francis “Bill” Roberts on November 23, 2010 at the B.C. Cancer Clinic in Vancouver. Bill passed in the company of family members who supported him while he fought a courageous year long battle with lung cancer.
Bill was born in Barrhead, Alberta on July 13, 1955, one of 12 children. At the age of 12, his family moved to Revelstoke followed by a move to Salmon Arm in 1968. He lived and worked in the Shuswap until the late 70’s before moving to Vancouver. He returned to the Shuswap several times over the years to work as a drywall finisher, but his heart was always in Vancouver.
Predeceased by his sister Mary in 1965, his father William in 1977, his brother Ron in 2003, and his mother Mary Anne in 2008. Bill is survived by his partner Linda, who provided him loving care during his illness, adopted grandchildren Mike and Aleithia, as well as his own children William and Chantel. Also survived by brothers Patrick (Katie), Jim (Barb), Dennis and Kevin as well as sisters Maureen, Eileen (Darrell) Loewen, Sheila Robertson, Mona Bradley, Theresa Tomkulak as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Bill also cherished the time he spent with Linda’s daughter Nicola and her three children: Chelsey, Reese, and Emil.
WE WILL MOURN YOUR DEATH TODAY, BUT WE WILL CELEBRATE YOUR LIFE FOREVER.
A Mass of Christian burial was held at the Holy Name of Jesus Parish in Vancouver on November 27, 2010. Eulogy was given by Patrick Roberts. Pallbearers were Jim Roberts, Dennis Roberts, Kevin Roberts, Ian Walters, Morris Green, and Patrick Loewen. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to Wiebe and Jeske Funeral Home.
Celebration of Life is being planned for 2011 for all who wish to attend.
If desired, contributions can be made to the B.C. Cancer Clinic or the charity of one’s choice in memory of Bill Roberts.
