Hadley, William John, born in Montreal, Quebec, on March 19, 1912, died September 25, 2008 in Shuswap Lake General Hospital, Salmon Arm at the age of 96. Bill is survived by his wife, Nancy (Best) of 62 years and children, David, Salmon Arm, Sylvia (Al) Achtem West Vancouver, Earl (Lee) Salmon Arm and Neil (Michealle) Prince George. Also surviving him are seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren

As a baby he came to Burstall, Saskatchewan and as a teenager again moved with his family to Onoway, AB. where he worked on the family farm for several years. He later “rode the rods” to the Coast looking for work. Like many Prairie farm boys dad joined the Army and went overseas with the Seaforth Highlanders in 1942. Soon after being discharged from the army in 1946 dad got married in Stony Plain, AB, moved to New Westminster and began work at the Alaska Pine mill. He later tried his hand at mushroom farming before becoming a custodian, retiring from Dare Foods in 1976. Retirement saw a move from Surrey to Salmon Arm where he enjoyed golf and bowling when he wasn’t mowing lawns, filling the woodshed or helping mom with the gardening at their Gleneden home.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. Weicker and to the compassion given dad in his final days by those who cared for him in his final days at Bastion Place and the Shuswap hospital.

A celebration of Dad’s life will be held on Sunday October 12, 2008 at the Salmon Arm Seniors Centre, 170 – 5 Ave. SE, Salmon Arm from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. In lieu of flowers a contribution, in dad’s name, may be made to the Shuswap Hospital Foundation, Box 265 Salmon Arm, B.C., V1E 4N3
