NAKAZAWA (nee SHIMODA)

May 21, 1918 - July 15, 2008

Mrs. Yoshiko Nakazawa, nee Shimoda, passed away peacefully in Royal Inland Hospital, Kamloops, with her family by her side, on July 15, 2008.

Born in Mission BC, she was one of seven children of Kumeji and Chiyono Shimoda. She attended a seamstress school in Vancouver and after a short courtship, she married Hidehiko (Bob) Nakazawa on December 6, 1941.

In 1946, “Ma and Pa” and their extended family settled in Magna Bay, establishing a successful strawberry farm business and raised eight children. Ma enjoyed spending many hours tending to her flower gardens, watching WWF wrestling, dropping a few coins at the casinos, going fishing with Pa and having friends and family over for “coffee time”.

In 1992, Ma and Pa retired to Chase. They soon adapted to the city life. They enjoyed eating out and taking part in the seniors’ activities. As her health failed, she returned to the North Shuswap to be with her family.

Yoshi was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years, her daughter Kumi, age 62 years and her grandson Ryan, age three months. She will be sadly missed by her family: Kiyo (Florence), (Ross), Hiro, Naomi (Bob), Yoko (Gary), Sherry (Barry), Gary (Cindy), Marlene (Scott), 19 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren and numerous extended family members.

Funeral services for Yoshi will be held at the chapel of Bowers Funeral Home, Salmon Arm, on Saturday, July 26, 2008, at 11:00 a.m., with Jack Bowers presiding. Following a reception, interment will take place in the Chase Cemetery.

A special thank your to Dr. Rollheiser and the nursing staff of 3South for all their support and care.
